Suspended above the streets of Kathmandu, a tangled web of wires tells the story of rapid expansion and adaptation. Electrical cables, telephone lines and internet connections intertwine above busy intersections. Each new wire is added with practicality rather than order or aesthetics in mind, almost as if they’re growing on their own, like vines seeking out sunlight.
Officials plan to move these wires underground to create a safer, neater cityscape. While many people will celebrate the demise of an eyesore, it does feel like a unique life force will be extinguished in the process.
