'Landscapes, Lived' depicts landscape as something shaped by people’s need for modernity, seeking out markers of power generation, travel, or defence. It captures social transformation through infrastructure and counters the narrative of the Highlands and Islands as remote and resistant to development. Historically distant from the centres of the industrial revolution, the Highlands and Islands absorbed much mid-twentieth century change: new technology meant that the region became central to modern development.
